ARE YOUR MATERIALS CLEAN?
Before sewing, we take great care to delicately wash each quilt and material with a special restoration detergent. When you receive your garment it has been pre-washed.
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY GARMENT?
The Rusty Bolt prides itself in utilizing almost exclusively vintage, or second hand, material; the condition of each fabric used will vary and some may have imperfections. Most textiles used were not made to withstand modern washing practices or detergent, for this reason we encourage customers to handle each item with care. Below is an easy-to-follow, comprehensive guide to cleaning vintage.
Feel free to contact us with any concerns!
WHY VINTAGE MATERIALS?
The Rusty Bolt believes in being as sustainable as possible; utilizing vintage materials allows us to create beautiful and unique garments that have a low carbon footprint. Did you know that the fashion and the textile industry produce more than 92 million tons of waste a year and consumes around 1.5 trillion tons of water annually?
One of our favorite things about this process is engaging with materials that have a history all their own. Giving items that have been cast aside, forgotten, or mistreated a second life while celebrating the love and craftsmanship that went into its initial creation is a form of magic in itself.
WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE FASHION AND WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Sustainable fashion, or slow fashion, is a movement that encourages consumers to be more mindful of their purchases and consider the impact each choice we make has on our communities and our planet. Sustainable fashion is the ethical clap back against the fast fashion model; It is fueled by a desire for a better world, a world that uplifts creativity, values good craftsmanship, understands quality over quantity, encourages us to reduce reuse and recycle, and is above all considerate of our communities and environment.
HOW DO YOU GET YOUR PRICES?
Our prices reflect the time, effort, and skills our team invests into each piece, as well as the value of the material itself. We ask that you keep in mind how much goes into our process from sourcing and cleaning vintage textiles, to drafting and creating garments.
The Rusty Bolt believes in paying our employees a fair wage.
Please consult our measurement / size guide to help you find your size.
The Rusty Bolt is in the process of grading their patterns to expand their available sizes. We aim to be body inclusive with designs that are just as comfortable as they flattering.
Disclaimer: while we do our best to create a variety of sizes and styles, we are often restricted by the size of the materials themselves.
DO YOU MAKE MENSWEAR?
We would love to eventually bring on a menswear line! Our team is very small and while we work as efficiently as we can, developing patterns is very time consuming. Keep your eyes peeled!
ARE YOU HIRING?
We are not currently hiring, however:
If you are experienced and knowledgeable in making garments and are interested in joining our team as a production sewer, please email us your resume and examples of your most recent work!
